The Southland needs volunteers!

The Los Angeles County Disaster Communications Service (LACDCS or DCS) reminds experienced and new amateur radio operators there is a desperate need for volunteers! Public safety agencies, hospitals and both city and county organizations need more operators. They’ll fulfill amateur radio’s long-time motto of getting on the air ‘when normal communication modes fail.’

From hurricanes to wildfires, civic-minded amateur radio operators help communities cope after cell and satellite resources fail. Significant events like “The Big One” will be no different. If you’re interested, please contact our Membership Team; they are happy to get questions.

DCS joined with Glendora, ARES Northeast, and other San Gabriel Valley area operators in a well-run event hosted by ARES NE.

Experienced operators

Experienced hams with digital radio skills, advanced licenses, and “HF experience” (long-distance radio) have much to offer communities. Their cool heads can speak clearly and accurately on the air in sometimes hectic emergency situations. They are also great mentors for brand-new licensees who can learn the basics of emergency radio by doing.
