The main DCS repeater, 145.300 on Mt. Disappointment, has been experiencing constant interference from a fleet of fishermen. Due to these problems, the repeater has been turned off on several occasions. In the near future, whenever the repeater is shut off, please go the East Repeater on 145.300, PL 156.7 or to the back up repeater on 147.270. We sincerely hope that the fleet moves on quickly and the normal operations on the repeater will return as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience while we try to resolve this issue. EOM

DCS Event – August 08 – The funeral for Deputy Juan Escalante will be this Friday, 08-08-08.  I need about 15 people for traffic/parking control for the cemetery.  It will be at Resurrection> Cemetery, 966 North Portrero Grande Drive, Montebello, CA.  It is just off the Pomona (60) Fwy, north side, between Paramount Blvd and Portrero Grande Drive.  Reporting time for the cemetery will be 1000 hours and expected to last until 1500 hours.  Make sure anyone who volunteers for this detail has a radio/extra batteries (charged) /water/snacks, SUNSCREEN etc to last the day.  The weather is supposed to be in the low to mid 90's so be prepared.

The Uniform for the day is the GREEN polo shirt, GREEN pants, BLACK shoes -- no exceptions. Remember there will be a lot of executives present and this is the time that we have to be "spit and polished" in appearance.

Training – August 02 - Quarterly training day will be held on August 2 from 0800 – 1400 hours at the CEOC. A Hydration Course is being offered from 1100 – 1200 hours. Please note that this class will not be offered again until May 2009. The Net Control and Field Operations Training Course will be held from 0800 – 1130 hours. This class is suited to members whom are willing to act as net control during actual deployments from both the EOB and other locations. We regret to inform you of the passing of JaMi Smith, KK6CU. JaMi passed on December 30 at his home in Pasadena.  He was a long standing member of the DCS Technical Staff and will be missed.

Happy New Year from DCS!  We are still assembling 2007 statistics.  Thus far we know that DCS responded to over 30 incidents, logged in excess of 110,000 man hours and saved the County of Los Angeles over $4.5M.  Great work and welcome to 2008.

DCS is saddened to report the passing of Harland “Bud” Curtis, KD6UIF, a fellow member, Lakewood resident and true American Hero.  In 2004, during the 60th Anniversary of the Normandy landing, Bud personally received the Legion of Honor from the President of the French Republic M. Jacques Chirac.  Among his efforts during WWII, Bud was a paratrooper (HQ Company, 1st Battalion) who was dropped behind enemy lines on D-Day and survived the Battle of the Bulge.  The Legion of Honor, created by Napoleon Bonaparte, is the highest decoration in France and includes Alexander Graham Bell, Gen. Wesley Clark, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf and Winston Churchill among its recipients.  We salute his life, mourn our loss and keep his family in our prayers.
