The Disaster Communications Service ( DCS ), founded in 1951 is a disaster relief Organization that supports the County of Los Angeles. We are overseen by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for the Board of Supervisors.
We welcome Ham Radio Operators and those who have an interest in volunteering to help their community in times of need. Though our main function is to provide a secondary communication system to agencies, we also train and provide other services assisting however the agencies we are working with see fit.
We are an active group, offer ongoing training programs
and encourage our members to rise through our ranks. In recent months we have held drills, suported numerous activations including the Catalina Island, North and Corral Fires and held training courses for our members in Traffic Control, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Net Control, Incident Staging, National Incident Management Systems ( NIMMS ) and Basic and Tactical Message Handling ( SEMS ).
If you are interested in learning more about DCS or joining our ranks, are over the age of 18, live in Los Angeles County and do not have a criminal record,
